Formula Explanation
The calculation is driven by your lawn area and a per-species seeding rate expressed in pounds per 1,000 square feet.
Area (sq ft) = Length × Width
Seed (lb) = (Area ÷ 1,000) × Seeding rate
For overseeding, the seeding rate is about half the new-lawn rate because you are supplementing existing turf rather than covering bare ground. Metric inputs are converted to square feet before the rate is applied (1 sq m = 10.7639 sq ft), and the final weight is shown in both pounds and kilograms (1 lb = 0.4536 kg). A recommended purchase figure adds a 5% buffer for spreader overlap, edges, and spillage.
